Pickleball Paddle and Ball
Farmington Recreation, Adult Open Play Pickleball

Our Adult Open Play Pickleball Program will be held at New Horizons - Great Room from 6:00 - 9:00 PM where we have four courts for rotational play.

Experience one of the fastest growing sports today! Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and a plastic wiffle ball. It is a game that is appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels. Rules for Pickleball are simple; making it a great introductory sport.

Monthly registration is required!

Monthly fee is based on the number dates scheduled per session.

Registration for our December sessions opens on Monday, November 18 at 9:00 AM for Farmington residents and Tuesday, November 19 at 9:00 AM for non-residents.

* Registration is first come, first served. Max 20 players per night for our December sessions.

Balanced Play Schedule
Due to the continued growth of the program and wide variety of skills levels, a survey was conducted and in order to create a more balanced level of play we will follow the following schedule beginning with our October session.

Winners-Losers (Approach A):
When a group is coming off the court, the winners will place their paddles in a designated winners pile and the losers in the losers’ pile. The next game off the court will do the same, leading to new groups of four where the winners of one game will play the winners of the next, leading to new pairings and skills.

Skill Labels (Approach B):

Each participant will place a label at the bottom of their paddle indicating their approximate skill level. When choosing your next game, people can see the skill level of each player in that pile and choose to join if they believe it will make for a balanced game. There can be a mix of colors if it will lead to a balanced game. For example, two beginners + two intermediate level players will make for a good game if each side has one of each. Generally, mixing beginner and advanced players is the only time where this breaks down as it would in any game because of how big a gap there is in skill levels on the court.

Assigning Courts (Approach C):

We will assign courts based on skill level and people may choose to play on the court that best matched their skill level or where they want to play. For example, we will have a beginner court, an advanced court, and two intermediate courts and paddle piles will be in different areas to make it clear which level court you are waiting to play on. If the composition of players changes over the course of the months or even on a given night, the number of courts dedicated to each skill level will adapt.

Each week, we will try each approach on a different night and rotate approaches the following week. For example:

Week 1:
Monday - Approach A
Wednesday - Approach B
Friday - Approach C

Week 2:
Monday - Approach C
Wednesday - Approach A
Friday - Approach B

Week 3:
Monday - Approach B
Wednesday - Approach C
Friday - Approach A
